There are few things in life that are perfect. And that's exactly why I skipped my June 1st blog. Instead of getting caught up in the "I HAVE to post something the first of every month" mindset, I decided to skip a blog to prove that you can still achieve and attain without things always going perfectly to plan. Regardless, the year of fasting continues! MAY: With the goal of resisting the urge to spend money at restaurants, I was able to financially donate (in a very small way) to others, including my church and people in my community. Was I perfect during this month? Definitely not. I took an impromptu trip with my girlfriend to Los Angeles over Memorial Day Weekend, and naturally, we did eat out while we were there. However, during this month, I made a conscious effort to save over $100 just by simply saying "no" to dinner out once a week. | JUNE: June was a fun one: fasting from the car stereo with the exception of Christian music. During this month (which included multiple trips to California), I wanted to make sure that the time I spent in the car was something more than just mindless driving, getting lost in the lyrics of a pop song, or daydreaming. I wanted to make my many hours behind the wheel worth something more than just getting from point A to point B. So, with the car radio either completely turned off so I could be immersed in prayer or turned on so that I could sing along in worship to God, I was able to truly strengthen my relationship with Jesus Christ this month. My takeaway? Life is short and time is precious. Time that you maybe feel is "wasted time" such as waiting in line at a grocery store or turning around to drive back home because you forgot something, may actually be calls from God to slow down and to take that time to just sit and talk to Him :) |
July: ???
Originally, the plan was that I would fast from materialistic shopping during the month of July. But through prayer and discernment, it turns out that I will instead be fasting from caffeine (aka coffee). I want to learn to be dependent on nothing in life but God, and because coffee is a drug that I've been dependent upon for years, I want to learn how to live and survive without it. For me, this is going to be challenging as I have at least two cups of coffee every day. But, it's 2018... The year of fasting. The year of challenges. The year of taking away so that I can learn so much more.
Join me in the second half of this year in fasting!
